The several websites listed below provide the details about the locations
mentioned in Fresh Feathered Eggs. Click on each one to find out more about
places like Wamego, Westmoreland, the Flint Hills, Northeastern Kansas,
Pottawatomie County, and more. Enjoy!
Wamego: Many of the extended Burgess family and their relatives have Wamego addresses. In fact, our sister, Joyce Elcock and her husband Doug still live on the old family farm 6 miles from there.
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is at 6th and Lincoln Avenue and Wamego High
School is a few blocks further north. Freddy (John) and George graduated
from WHS in 1952 and 1954, and dozens of cousins also claim Wamego as their
alma mater.
“People from Wamego have a twinkle in their eyes,” former mayor and John’s
classmate Larry Fechter said. “It is a special place to live and raise a
family.”
Pottawatomie County: Here is where our great grandparents homesteaded in 1868. We lived here much of our lives.
Westmoreland: This is the Pottawatomie County seat and a sleepy country town. Many of the Scott side of the family are from here.
St. Marys: The second largest Pott. county town, it is a few miles east of Wamego on Highway 24.
Onaga, Olsburg, Belvue, Emmett, Flush, and other county towns: Several small towns dot the county. Some are too small to make the computer list.
Flint Hills, Lakes, etc. This site includes Hartford where we lived at Aunt Maggie’s farm during much of WW II.
Konza Prairie: The spectacular Tall Grass prairie of the Flint Hills.
